Amazing Bentos!

For those of you not familiar with the art of Bento Boxes, the idea of spending hours packing your child's lunch may seem a little obsessive and strange. But, let me enlighten you! Bentos are, put simply, the best lunch boxes in the world, and they of course come from Japan. :) I scoured the internet for some amazing bentos, and found some pics that will blow your mind! This culinary art can come in many forms, and not all of the Bentos are cute! There are some in here that any little boy would die for! All I can say is, when I have kids, they're getting a Totoro bento on the first day of school :)

Enjoy!

I love this adorable Hello Kitty Bento, especially because she is wearing a Bear Suit! Complete with little bees!

This little kitty is almost too cute to eat! I love the tofu and ham legs and ears! Adorable and delicious!

Super Mario Brothers! I love his little blue eyes, I have NO idea what she used to make those! Maybe dyed tofu? the little ham/asparagus spears look so good too!

Yep, You're seeing right, It's a Mozart Bento. Complete with musical notes and piano keys. Wonderful!

Aww! A Catbus Bento! For those of you who haven't seen the movie "My Neighbor Totoro", you have to rent it, it's one of the best children's movies ever made... and definitely my favorite!

Another "My Neighbor Totoro" Bento! I love how she made his grey parts with sushi-flecked rice... So inventive! The sootsprites are little meatballs too, and his mouth is ham! :) Reminds me of Ponyo (another Miyazaki Character- who loves ham!!) speaking of which...

A Ponyo Bento! :) If you haven't seen "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea" rent it soon! It's basically the Japanese version of "The Little Mermaid", but the art in the movie is fantastic! I love how this artist used cheese, egg, and krab for the details!

Look at the detail in this one! Amazing! It is a recreation of a famous woodblock print by Hokusai... The different colors of rice are gorgeous! Although, I'm not sure I would want to eat greenish blue ham haha. It is still amazing to look at!

Here's an interesting Bento! From the looks of this, it was made for a woman's spa lunch! What a great idea! :) The food looks decidedly adult, I don't know of many kids who like cucumber, dates, or pesto hummus... But I love that they have taken Bentos to a new audience!

Aw! What a good mommy! I imagine that her little boy loves Japanese Baseball, and this is her edible tribute to his favorite players! The hard boiled egg- baseball is so cute, and the sausage bat! :) Food like this makes me smile!

Everything about this Bento is awesome... I love the little piggy noses, the mushroom eggs and the little hot dog flowers! So adorable and delicious looking! Mmm and that's sesame chicken on the side... I'm getting hungry just looking at this one!

Haha, how adorable! A Winny the Pooh Bento! I love his little shirt :)

This one cracks me up. Thanks to one of my friends for pointing out my mistake on identifying this one! This is a "Big Daddy" from the game Bioshock for XBox360 and PS3!

Speaking of Nerdy, this is the best idea I've ever seen. Black pearl rice with a cheese-cutout Storm Trooper. Star Wars + Bentos, two ideas that were born to go together! :) Love it! Flawless execution and great idea! Brava!

Another Star Wars Bento that had me grinning from ear to ear! Is that a roast beef Jawa? Well yes, I think it is! mmm, and with that hummus "sand" and those pretty tomato "moons" I have gotta hand it to the creator, this is awesome. Great work!

  1. The third to the last bento is actually a Big Daddy from BioShock. He's carrying one of the kidnapped little girls on his back. You should play, it's a fun game. :D
    (I just out-geeked you.)
