Koji's Shabu Shabu!

The other night, a few friends and I made the trek to LA to check out the Alice in Wonderland Ultimate Fan Event. It was worth the drive, we saw Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Tim Burton, Mia Wasikowska, Crispin Glover and Helena Bonham Carter- basically the entire cast of Burton's new Alice in Wonderland movie! Well, when we arrived, the Hollywood/Highland center was totally packed, we gave up any hope of getting a clear view of the stage and decided to have dinner instead. We wandered to the top level of the shopping center and saw a Sushi/ Shabu Shabu restaurant called Koji's, and I begged my friends to go inside :). We were seated immediately by a sweet waitress, and throughout the meal their service was immaculate (they even split our bill onto 3 credit cards, with 3 different amounts, without complaining and got it right!) In case you don't know, Shabu Shabu is a fantastic meal kind of like fondue, but instead of cooking your morsels of food in oil or dipping them in chocolate or cheese, you dip healthy pieces of lean meats and veggies into boiling water in the center of your table and then have your choice of yummy dipping sauces to flavor them! I had heard of it but never tried it before. It was amazing! The ponzu (citrus/soy) dressing that they provided for the veggies was sooo good, and the creamy sesame sauce for the meat was incredible! I also ordered a salmon skin roll, which was absolutely one of the best I have ever tried, and I get salmon skin rolls every where I go. If you go with a friend and split the Shabu Shabu combination (veggies, noodles, beef and shrimp), the total comes out to under 15 dollars each! (beers and sushi rolls are extra of course) I highly reccomend it to anyone looking for a fun meal with friends or an innovative date. And remember, happy hour is 5-8 pm Monday-Friday ($3 draft beers)! Koji's is located at the Hollywood/ Highland center on the third floor, and they apparently have another location at The Block in Orange, so I'm going to have to try that one as well and get back to you. Happy eating!
