Royal/T came to my attention when I attended a Hello Kitty Ball there a few months ago. Of course all the Japanophiles within 100 miles flocked to the doors of this tiny gallery/cafe/shop, so we had to wait outside for over an hour to get inside. I am so glad we waited! This interesting venue is an homage to the Maid-Cafes of Tokyo's Akihabara district, so the waitresses of course have the cutest little maid outfits on while they serve you your Morrocan Mint Tea.
The food and drinks are an interesting fusion of Japanese/ French/ Californian fare. Although there are over 20 tables, you can count on the fact that you will have to wait a while to be seated, this place is incredibly popular! I suggest you put yourself on Royal/T's mailing list, so you will be informed every time a special event is happening, because they are not to be missed! The Hello Kitty Ball featured art from dozens of famous artists paying homage to her highness miss Hello Kitty. Including a huge Hello Kitty Hot Air Balloon (perfect for pictures!)
Even Lady Gaga got in on the fun and dressed up for a few amazing pictures by Markus Klinko and Indrani. The maids wove in an out of the crowd, weilding platters of adorable (and delicious) cupcakes that rivaled any Sprinkles cupcake I've had! Apparently this place is famous for their cupcakes so pick one up if you visit!
Every couple weeks, this interesting space hosts a new event- last month it was an Alice in Wonderland-themed Tea Party! (Sadly I started a new job last month so I was too tired and busy to make the drive to Studio City). Be sure to check out the gift store when you go, and pick up a copy of my all-time favorite coffee table book, FRUITS! (a showcase of the crazy fashions of the Harajuku district in Tokyo!).
Check out the Royal/T website for upcoming events and more info, click on the Cafe tab to see a menu (it's constantly changing!). And be sure to stop by next time you are passing Studio City!
